James F. Robinson is a filmmaker living in Los Angeles.

 

Robinson raised financing, wrote, directed and produced the independent film STILL BREATHING starring Brendan Fraser, Joanna Going, Ann Magnuson, Lou Rawls and Celeste Holm. The film was released theatrically in the US by October Films (now Focus Features) and internationally by Paramount (UK), Disney (Australia), Delon (S, Asia), Fox Latin America, Helkon (Central Europe), Arum Pd. (Spain), Cinema Service (Korea) and Ashe Continental (Africa) and others. Lakeshore International handled foreign sales duties. STILL BREATHING premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and went on to play in many other festivals, including Seattle, Chicago, Puchon Korea, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, Nantucket and others.

 

Robinson was nominated for the Grand Prix des Amériques at the Montreal World Film Festival. Fraser won the Best Actor Award for his role in the film at the Seattle International Film Festival.

 

He created the interactive text-messaging show TEXT ME TV with Norwegian partner ACTIVE LOOP which was broadcast live on regional CW affiliates seven nights a week. It featured live text messaging interactivity never before seen on US television.

 

In 1999, Robinson founded the new media company, CinemaElectric and served as its CEO and Chief Creative Officer. The company developed a new kind of programming for mobile phones called "Pocket Cinema". PocketCinema was distributed directly to mobile phones in more than 50 countries via clients including Verizon, Nokia, Sony Erricson and other top international mobile carriers. After the company went public, Robinson left in 2006 to resume his filmmaking career.

 

Robinson's early work has been seen on PBS, The Disney Channel, The Discovery Network, The Family Channel and a variety of European Networks. Jim also founded and directed an improvisational theater company in Texas, IMPROV-A-RAMA, which has been performing since 1990. His commercial, non-profit and corporate clients include NOKIA, X PRIZE FOUNDATION, SONY ERICSSON, TRANSAMERICA, VERIZON, CHILD FUND, HOLT INTERNATIONAL, AUTOLIV and many others. 

 

Robinson is a filmmaker for GETTY IMAGES (formerly The Image Bank) since 1990, specializing in creative scenes of emotional human power, as well as international and nature footage. Currently producing in next-generation 4K ultra-high definition footage.

He has been a featured speaker at MILIA-MIDEM (FRANCE), MIP-TV, NATPE, SXSW, MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT MARKET LONDON, INTERNET WORLD, iHOLLYWOOD MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT SUMMIT, STREAMING MEDIA WORLD, CTIA WIRELESS IT & INTERNET, MOBILE COMMERCE WORLD ASIA and other key media and technology industry events.

 

Robinson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Trinity University with degrees in Cinema and Art History. He is represented by the Lisa Callamaro Literary Agency in Beverly Hills, CA.
